BIFMA Certification Levels

BIFMA Certification Levels applicants can gain credits in 3 categories: health, well-being, and environmental and social impacts. Each category includes credits related to the organization, manufacturing facilities, products, and prerequisites. Manufacturers can earn one of 3 possible levels of the standard, based on the following scores:

Level 1:-  32 to 48 total digits:  minimum five are product-relate digits. There are 5 products under this level.

Level 2:- 49 to 68 total digits: minimum sixteen are product-relate digits. There are 16 products under this level.

Level 2:- 369 to 111 total digits: minimum twenty-six are product-relate digits. There are  26 products under this level.

What is BIFMA Testing?

The BIFMA standards establish general standards for table and desk products for commercial offices. The ANSI/BIFMA e3

Furniture General Standard was first introduced in 2008. This standard remains the leading standard for assessing the health, wellness, and environmental and social impacts of office furniture products. This standard is the leading standard for furniture assembly.

BIFMA X5.1-2017(R2022)

General-objective Office Chairs – testing. Covers institutional and general office, guest chairs/ side seating, stools, stacking chairs,  and tablet armchairs. These chair products are commonly single seats and may incorporate adjustment elements.

BIFMA X5.11-2015(R2020)

BIFMA X5.41-2021 Public and lounge seating for larger sizes

ANSI/BIFMA X6.5-2022 Home Office and Occasional Use Tables, Storage Products, and Desks Small Office or Home Office Furniture – Inquiry.

ANSI/BIFMA M7.1-2011(R2021)

This standard provides a Test Method for Deciding VOC Emissions from Office Seating Areas, Components, and Office Furniture. ANSI/BIFMA X9.2 Safety Pods
