Documents Required for Trademark Registration in India

Overview

Companies and businesses must register a trademark. This is not a very complicated process, but it requires several documents to complete the process. The document requirements vary for different types of applicants. The process of trademark registration requires only scanned copies of the original documents.

Different types of applicants for trademark registration

• Individual
• Absolute owner
• Partnership firm
• MSME(Small Scale Enterprises)
• Limited liability Partnership
• Any Company or business brand 

Required Documents for individual or absolute owner

1. A logo or trademark copy – logo copy must be in JPG or PNG format and colour or black and white and with a size of 8*8 cm. Word marks can also be used.
2. Form TM -48  
3. ID proof
4. Owner’s address proof 
5. trademark description
6. Owner’s Mobile number and e-mail address.

Documents Required for Company/ Partnership or limited liability Partnership (LLP) – MSMEs

1. A logo or trademark copy – logo copy must be in JPG or PNG format and colour or black and white and with a size of 8*8 cm. If logo is not available, Word marks can also be used.
2. Form TM -48  
3. Udyog Aadhar Registration Certificate issued by DPIIT.
4. Certificate of Incorporation of Company.
5. ID proof
6. Owner’s Address proof 
7. Description of trademark 
8. Mobile number and e-mail address of owner.
9. Digital signature certificate, if you register online.

Required Documents for Company/ Partnership or limited liability Partnership (LLP)

1. A logo or trademark copy – logo copy must be in JPG or PNG format and colour or black and white and with a size of 8*8 cm. Word marks can also be use.
2. Form TM -48  
3. ID proof of authorised signature of organisation.
4. Address proof of signatory.
5. Trademark description
6. Incorporation of Company Certificate.
7. Mobile number and e-mail address of owner.

Documents required for Trust/ Society/ Others – MSMEs

1. A logo or trademark copy – logo copy must be in JPG or PNG format and colour or black and white and with a size of 8*8 cm. If logo is not available, Word marks can also be used.
2. Form TM -48  
3. Udyog Aadhar Registration Certificate issued by DPIIT.
4. Registration certificate as proof of the business.
5. ID proof of authorised signature of organisation.
6. Address proof of authorised signature of organisation.
